'Leadership is NOT about changing the mindset of the individual or group, but in the cultivation of an environment that brings out the best and even inspires the individuals in that group to do what needs to be done' - Arthur F. Carmazzi

WOO believes that the key to building and empowering our youth to be the leaders of tomorrow is through innovative programs that address all the compartments of ones life, while building their self-esteem.

Windows of Opportunity (WOO) is a tax exempt 501©3 non-profit organization. It was formed to provide young people who are ages 6 - 24, with a healthy, safe, supportive, & positive environment in which they can be encouraged to discuss themselves as persons of infinite worth & potential. We currently provide services to the New York Metropolitan area and Long Island, but are available and expanding to outside this region as well. We move forward to design workshops and programs that assist youth from the elementary level to the university level in achieving positive outcomes in self-esteem, school performance, career planning, linking their lives today with future success, and addressing issues significant to young people.

With a team of professionals that have over 50 years of combined youth development experience, we have created and are excited to bring you WOO – a combination of innovative programs and services to the youth of the communities we serve. There are many programs that WOO can provide that may be tailored to fit the needs of any school, after school, or youth based agency or community. All WOO programs are created to address the multitude of needs and issues that today's youth are facing. WOO offers a wide range of programs that focus on individual diversity & provides empowering services, leadership training, support, guidance and assistance to those who seek it, with the sole intent of preparing our youth for a healthier transition into their future.

WOO looks forward to working in your schools and programs and in collaboration with the many phenomenal professionals doing youth work in our communities.

Many people today unfortunately view teens by what they read or hear on television. WOO realizes there is a need to create programs that exemplify the true meaning of what the youth of today can accomplish. Today’s society has exposed teens to a myriad of social issues that often takes precedent over learning healthy strategies to cope in today’s world. There is a need for programs that will empower these teens to make a difference in their lives and communities.

According to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 91% of youth ages 12 to 17 who participated in community activities had lower at-risk behaviors than non-participants. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that continual prevention outreach and education efforts are required as new generations replace the generations that benefited from earlier prevention strategies. CDC also states that community and school programs can be important partners for reaching youth before high-risk behaviors are established. In other words, in terms of youth, only programs that are designed to address all the compartments of ones life, while building leadership skills can enhance ones self-esteem and positive outlook on life.

WOO fills this critical need because there are no programs in Queens or its surrounding boroughs addressing the needs of youth in its entirety. In WOO addressing adolescent issues while building self-esteem simultaneously, the result will be in reducing the outlook of labeling youth negatively and INSTEAD, give youth a sense of self-worth so they can have the necessary skills to work through the root of their problems in order to better prepare for their future.

We move forward to accomplish the following:

  • To provide youth services and programs in an atmosphere of respect without financial barriers.
  • To design services and programs that assist youth in achieving positive outcomes in self-esteem, school performance, career planning, and in linking their lives today with future success.
  • To foster youth with an opportunity for instruction, advice, support and encouragement, as well as create a network of resources and information for individuals and families.
  • To coordinate innovative leadership programs that empower and support youth to make a difference in their communities while addressing issues of significance to young people.
  • To cultivate and encourage the philosophy and practice of self-empowerment.
  • To promote a sense of personal responsibility for one's health and well-being.
